How to Write a Sports Article

Sports

Sports are competitive physical activities involving one or more teams of players. They are usually played by individuals, but sometimes the entire team competes. Some examples of team sports include tennis, basketball and football.

How to Write a Sports Article

A well-written sports article should be interesting, informative and fun. To do this, you should know as much as possible about the sport you’re covering. This includes knowing how the game is played, the history of the sport, and the players and coaches you’re interviewing.

Lead the article with a creative and interesting opening sentence. This will grab the reader’s attention and transport them to the game.

The first paragraph should include the important information about the event, such as the final score and who won. It should also contain key quotes from the people involved in the game, such as the players and coaches.

LEAD AND COMPARE

A clear definition of what a sport is can be difficult to come by. It can be hard to tell whether mountain climbing, for example, is a sport or not. The same could be said about race car driving, though most drivers would maintain that they are athletes, based on the fact that they require skill and dexterity to operate a vehicle.

My working definition of a sport is that it is any competitive event in which one side is actively engaged in stopping the other from scoring. This eliminates a lot of track and field competitions as well as some gymnastics or ice events because they are great physical feats but the other competitors are not engaged in stopping you from scoring.
