The History of Sports

Sports

If you are a big fan of a certain type of activity, you may have heard of sports. This is an extremely popular genre of games that involves intense physical competition. The term sport refers to any physical activity characterized by competition, physical athleticism, or dexterity. Sports are usually governed by rules that ensure fairness and a consistent adjudication of the winner. In addition to its value as a source of entertainment, sports attract large audiences and are broadcast to a wider audience.

Many athletes internalize a script from coaches and other people on how to behave during game time. Fans are also prompted to display various emotions during a game by the stage setters. Although these processes are largely unconscious and mediated by others, they contribute to the management of emotions within sports. There are rules for these emotional processes and these rules vary from culture to culture. The emotions of the athletes themselves are also a product of the rules and expectations of the game.

During the Renaissance, sports became more secular. The Czech educator John Amos Comenius promoted physical education. Aesthetic elements survived in some sports, but the focus on quantification dominated much of the activity. The term “measure” originally meant proportion and balance, but in later times began to mean numerical measurements. Athletes also developed ballet during this period. And fencing became so important to the elite of northern Europe that it was regarded as an art form.
